Nai Thon is located close to the international airport on the west coast, north of Patong. The roads leading to the beach are stunning with some of the quieter roads (if you are coming from the north) taking you through prime jungle and lush valleys.
During the peak season (November through until May) the hotels are busy, the sea is calm and the restaurants and bars are buzzing. However, it is more like a deserted island for the rest of the year and many of the businesses close up as it is not busiest enough to open.
Activities
The town surrounding the beach is very small; just one road and facilities ar therefore limited. The hotels provide most amenities which may be needed and there is a mini mart and a handful f street stalls for everything else. Activities on offer are largely natural pursuits which can be enjoyed at minimum expense.
Water sports include snorkelling (the waters have an impressive 15 metre visibility during the winter months), tours on a long tail boat, scuba diving (which can be organised by your hotel) and swimming. While the water is very calm from November through until May, the rest of the year sees dangerous undercurrents and large waves so care should be taken when swimming at these times.
Snorkelling is often the most rewarding activity as it is possible to catch a glimpse of some stunning marine life. The best snorkelling location is found among the rocks at the north and south ends of the beach. Scenes of parrot fish, small wrasse, trigger fish, banner fish, sea urchins and beautiful coral can be enjoyed by the whole family.
Dining and Nightlife
There are a number of restaurants located next to the beach which are open all day. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as a variety of snacks and other refreshments. Prices are very reasonable, but the choice of cuisine is much more limited. Nightlife in Nai Thon is also fairly limited. There are just a small handful of bars which are independent from the hotels and open throughout the evening. They are however perfect for enjoying a cocktail while the sun goes down.
