This tiny fishing island is located very close to Phuket; in fact, just 10 minutes away by long tail boat from Laem Hin pier. It is a stunning island perfect for those who want to get away from it all and gat a glimpse in local island life. It is known as coconut island which is due to the number of palm trees on the island and also because of the island’s shape.
The island boasts lush mangrove forests which can all be explored by boat and there are also a number of floating restaurants nearby which serve up delicious freh sea food every day. These are popular with both locals and tourists. Next to the restaurants are the only available accommodation in the area; floating bungalows. These offer every visitor a unique chance to stay out at sea while still having many conveniences still at their fingertips.
If you have had enough of the frenetic nature of Phuket, you will undoubtedly enjoy a night or two on Maphrao. There is not much to do during the daytime or at night, but this adds to the island’s charm. People do not visit here if they are looking for a lively night scene or abundant water sports. If you are short on time, it is possible to visit for a few hours or simply for lunch, but as it is just 10 minutes way from the pier, you will not find a better semi-deserted island to visit at any time of day.
