The most prominent feature at Chalong is the 720-metre long jetty although there are also a number of restaurants, shops and tourist information desks. The beach is also home to a one-stop customs, immigration and harbour office and a brand new rescue centre.
The bars and restaurants on offer are a good choice for anyone in Chalong for a night or two. Thai and international cuisine is as well as fresh fish and other delights from the sea. When it comes to accommodation, Chalong Bay is home to a small selection of bungalow and apartment operations as well as a scattering of Bed and Breakfasts.
The beach has grown considerably and developed from a small, sleepy port into a hive of activity and a vibrant entertainment centre. Where once stood cheap karaoke bars and seedy girlie bars, visitors will now find stylish restaurants, trendy bars and the largest English pub in southern Thailand. Despite the beach’s small size and lack of daytime attractions, there are a good number of international restaurants such as French, German, English and Swiss.
While it is not a great place to visit with a family, it is a good place to travel to for an evening or two and get to know some of the local expat community.
