Ao Yon is very much a local’s beach due to the abundance of shade and lack of tourist facilities, but this should not put you off as you will be made to feel very welcome and you will get a glimpse of local life in Phuket.

Ao Yon Senior (the larger beach) is located over the hill and around the bend.  This beautiful beach mirrors the images found in the movies with its fine white sand, palm trees and crystal clear waters. There are however no more facilities on here than there are on the former beach, just a simple food stall and a handful of Longtail boats for hire. This is because Ao Yon is essentially a residential beach and the locals do not want mass development.

Weekend picnics are a common event here with local families settling for the day with food, drink and entertainment. There are many shady spots to relax and as long as you bring your own food, you will have a very relaxing and indulgent day. Swimming is encouraged for children, but not so much for adults as there are pearl farms located 150 meters from the shore. As long as everyone stays close to the beach, there will not be a problem.

Ao Yon is essentially a combination of the deserted island fantasy and a working beach. It is different to many other beaches on Phuket because the locals do not want it developed so it has remained the same for many years and will continue to do so.
